It’s important to remember that whether or not your case is resolved through an agreement or by a judge making decisions the obligations that are imposed upon each party are legally enforceable in the future. And so that if your spouse is not meeting his or her obligations whether it’s to pay support or to divide assets or to make the children available for parenting time you have the right to go back into court and ask the judge to enforce that order.

Enforcement can come in different forms. It can be through incarceration in extreme cases. It can be through monetary sanctions or it can be in the form of anything tailored specifically to the specific problem in your case. But the judge has the right and the authority to make sure that people meet their obligations.
